Social injustices
Today we celebrate the World Day of Social Justice 2023 with the theme “Overcoming Barriers and Unleashing Opportunities for Social Justice”, with a concrete purpose of encouraging “to strengthen global solidarity and to rebuild trust in government” (UN concept note). The global scenario of social injustices and overlapping social and economic crises have impacted almost all of us, much more the lives of the poor.
While societies and institutions are hopeful of many opportunities to build a coalition for social justice, Pope Francis provokes us to embrace justice in the context of social friendship as “working for a social and political order whose soul is social charity” (Fratelli Tutti, 180); and he even made a challenge: “Here is an urgent need to find new solutions that can go beyond the approach of those social policies” (World Day of Message of the Poor 2022)— in face of social, economic and environmental injustices.
In our ARCORES Network, we strive to bring in place our commitment to social justice by encouraging across our network existing in different countries to work and commit to programs that promote “justice for all”; whether it be in poverty-challenged areas, or in societies where injustices are apparent and growing affecting the lives of the people, or in an ambiance of discrimination of color, religion, and gender. Every member of our network must embrace that we are all instruments of justice.
