This Saturday, February 24, marks the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Thanks to ARCORES’ collaboration agreement with the Claretian Missionaries’ Proclade Foundation, our Solidarity Network continues to help in the country.
In January, ARCORES sent 7,200 euros. With this amount, the Claretian Missionaries in Ukraine help the people who have returned to Truskavets, near the border with Poland. In addition, they continue to go to the front line to distribute food and basic necessities.
Aid since 2022
This latest consignment sent by ARCORES join the more than 24,000 euros collected by the Augustinian Recollect Family and destined for the country during 2022 and 2023.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) puts the number of people missing since the beginning of the war at 23,000. By the end of 2023, more than 10,000 civilians had died as a result of this conflict, according to the United Nations.
In addition, UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, estimates that 6.4 million people have left the country fleeing the conflict, which has also generated 3.7 million internally displaced persons.
Prayer and support
In recent weeks, news reports have alerted us to an upsurge in attacks by Russia, with consequent suffering for the civilian population.
“Let us not forget Ukraine. Our persevering prayer for peace, our closeness to the Ukrainian refugees in Spain and our financial support for the care of the victims in Ukraine is still necessary,” remarked Javier Sanchez, director of ARCORES International.
