Lavatories in the kitchens
The inauguration and blessing of the drinking water system in the rural community of Sexe de La Púcara (Tacabamba) took place on February 23. The water will reach 56 homes, the school, the chapel and the community center. In addition, 37 sinks have been built inside the kitchens and 35 pine and cypress seedlings have been given to the beneficiary for reforestation.
The ARCORES Peru team traveled from Chota first to the water reservoir with a capacity of 16 cubic meters, located in the highlands next to the road to El Verde. Later, in the village, the children were waiting for the ARCORES group with little flags from Peru and Spain. They visited one of the houses that had a dishwasher and pots and pans installed in the kitchen. The inhabitant of the house said what a great help this was for her, who previously had no water at all in her house and had to carry it from far away with the help of animals or collect it in buckets when it rained.
Without water for 22 years
Inauguration of the drinking water system. The inauguration ceremony began in the schoolyard, decorated for the occasion. A farmer explained that for 22 years, due to a landslide in the highlands, they had been without water because their rudimentary water system had broken down and they had not been able to repair it.
They had gone to the municipality of Tacabamba to request a new water system, but the municipality told them that they did not have the budget. ARCORES had made the request three years ago and finally this great project has been realized, thanks also to the help of the government of La Rioja, a Spanish region. From now on, this small Andean village will enjoy better health.
