This Tuesday marked the one year anniversary of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Therefore, ARCORES has just released the report of the project “Emergency Earthquake Turkey – Syria”, which describes the actions carried out in 2023 by the Blue Marists in Aleppo and to which the 20,000 euros contributed from ARCORES in 2023 were destined.
The Marists asked ARCORES to be able to disburse the aid collected and that which could continue to arrive, in the long term, to guarantee the accompaniment of the victims in the reconstruction and in the recovery of their livelihoods.
Partnership in 2024
Following the approval by the Board of Directors of this request, on January 29 of this year ARCORES transferred to the Marist Brothers the amount of 107,130.92 euros, which completes the delivery of everything collected in ARCORES for this emergency. The Marists have informed us that this amount will be used during 2024.
The emergency project has addressed the multiple dimensions of the crisis. With a holistic approach, the program has focused on addressing the food needs of elderly people left alone after their families left, providing daily care to more than 250 people.
In addition, monthly food baskets have been distributed to 735 families, houses have been rehabilitated and a minibus has been purchased to help children go to school.
Furthermore, microprojects have been promoted for those affected by the earthquake and the war in Syria. In addition, psychosocial care has been provided to young people, offering leisure and free time spaces to strengthen their emotional resilience.
