The Order of Augustinian Recollects has just presented the course entitled “Good Treatment, Prevention and Reparation of Abuse in Pastoral Settings”, promoted by the Commission for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Adults.
Carmen Montejo, doctor, member of the commission both in the Order and in ARCORES Spain and volunteer of the Solidarity Network, will be one of the speakers. Montejo will develop the first topic, which will deal with understanding sexual abuse in childhood.
She will be joined by María Rosaura González, a religious of the Society of St. Teresa of Jesus; Daniel Portillo, a priest belonging to the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors; María Teresa Compte, president of the Association for the Reception and Accompaniment of Bethany to Victims of Sexual Abuse in the Church; and Francisco Javier Monroy OAR, general councilor of the Order.
On-line formation
The Augustinian Recollects present this new formative initiative after the good acceptance of the Course of Introduction to Safe Environments, which has already been completed by more than 1,000 people from different countries.
The course, which is offered from the School of Formation In Imun Cordis, is totally online and free of charge; it is composed of five subjects, with synchronous classes, and will begin on March 1.
Its objectives are:
– To train religious and lay people, who work and collaborate in the pastoral environments of the Augustinian Recollect family (educational centers, parishes, social works and other ministries) about the promotion of good treatment and the generation of safe environments for children, adolescents and vulnerable adults.
– To deepen the knowledge of human vulnerability and of sexual and non-sexual abuse in the Church (of power, conscience, spiritual), as well as abuse of adults.
– To contribute to the training of religious and lay people, pastoral agents and those responsible for the prevention of abuse in pastoral settings, and to sensitize them to the task of the Church in the accompaniment, justice and reparation of victims and survivors.
