On Christmas Eve, an expedition of Resource Handumanam, a project of ARCORES Philippines, went to the town of Ilo (Negros) to bring urgent assistance to 300 families. Each family was given a bag of bread prepared by the Augustinian nuns, five gallons of drinking water (22.7 liters) and a sack of rice. Thirteen members of the Augustinian Recollect Secular Fraternities
participated in this expedition.
On the other hand, around 30 families in Barangay Rizal, whose houses were severely damaged, also received four galvanized roofs from ARCORES. One of the beneficiaries, Matilde Pasuelan, said that an old mangrove was uprooted by the wind and fell on her house totally destroying it. Some of those affected in this area are families affected by last January’s floods and were living in temporary shelters that were destroyed by the typhoon.
In addition, next December 27, sacks of rice will be distributed to those affected in the communities of Inagawan, San Vicente and Casian, in Palawan. The ARCORES Philippines team is currently identifying the affected families in this area.
In Cebu, 1,000 families have received a five-gallon container of drinking water, while ARCORES is collaborating with DYA (Detente y Ayuda -Stop and Help) Philippines in emergency relief in Cavayan and Candomí, in the Negros Occidental.
